Abstract:
Catalogue and analysis of material from Victorian excavations and those of the 1980s - brooches, bracelets, rings and other ornaments, furniture mounts, tools, and metalworking waste. X-ray fluorescence analysis showed very varied compositions. Casting and coldworking was done in the cave in 2nd century, and human skeletal material may relate to a different (earlier?) period of use; the supposed shrine is not well attested. Use of caves in RB times is known from the Mendips, Wales, N Yorks, and other areas; study is under way.
