Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Extensive fieldwork, contemporary archives and geochemical surveys have been used in the location of the smelting mills. During the industry's most productive period, 1580--1750, the ore hearth was the main furnace used, and its operation and that of the industry as a whole are described. A gazetteer of fifty-nine ore-hearth sites follows, citing available historical references to each and giving field evidence of present status where appropriate. | ||||
