Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Although Cheshire contains some of the major saltworks and the earliest purpose-built mechanised textile mills and industrial canals in Britain, study of the industrial period in the county (1750-1900) has been patchy. This thematic overview attempts to redress the balance and especially to highlight the contribution made over the last quarter century by archaeological fieldwork. Of set purpose, it is descriptive rather than analytical. Nevertheless, it is set within a framework of recent developments in methodology and theory, and suggestions are made of possible future research themes. | ||
