Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Rescue excavations were undertaken by the author on behalf of Bedfordshire County Council and the Department of the Environment on the moated site at Willington, TL 113502, known as 'Danish Docks'. The site had already been partly destroyed by the L and NW railway which cut through the earthworks, and more recently by afforestation and market gardening. Trial excavations revealed wall footings and timber post-holes of two Early Medieval buildings, and a section through part of the moated island showed something of the method of its construction. Part of a small timber jetty built into the river bank was found in situ. | ||
