An account of the archaeological impact of invasions into Scotland, with particular reference to sites in the care of the Secretary of State for Scotland. Aspects covered include the coming of the Romans, invasions of Scots from Northern Ireland, Angles in southern Scotland, Viking raiders in the northern area and the impact of Christianity. The material remains take the widest possible form including ecclesiastical buildings and settlements, fortifications, funerary monuments, standing stones and crosses, and houses. IH |
