Abstract: |
The report was commissioned by English Heritage to define and chart the extent of surviving wetlands in the five counties; collate known information on changes in their nature since the last glaciation; catalogue and analyse the extent and distribution of known prehistoric sites and monuments; describe the archaeological potential; and describe the nature and extent of threats to the wetlands. Substantial field survey was not undertaken. Environmental and archaeological data are given for Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester, and Cheshire, the implications for Meso to Iron Age periods are drawn, and recommendations made. |
