Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment and trial trenching were conducted as part of a planning condition of a development. Two areas were excavated and a watching brief was carried out on the grubbing out of pile locations. In area one, the excavation investigated the remains of the 19th century culverting and fragmentary remains of an adjacent 18th to 19th century building. In area two, the remains of the Clyde steelworks were recovered with four main phases of construction, including a large machine base, a boiler base, a chimney and flues and a later 20th century concrete cellar. A watching brief on pilling identified extensive 19th and 20th century cellars over much of the site. [Au(adp)] |
