Abstract: |
In February and April 2001 York Archaeological Trust observed the initial groundworks for the conversion of a shop into a pub at 15 High Petergate. Observation of various trenches for underpinning, new walls and drains revealed that the area had been considerably remodelled in the 19th and 20th centuries with the ground level rising by up to 2m in places. Although few finds and limited amounts of stratigraphy were found it could be argued that much of archaeological significance remained at depth in the immediate area. [Au(abr)] |
