Abstract: |
The watching brief was carried out during machine clearing of the site in preparation for construction and formation of parking areas, and the cutting of foundation/service trenches for two semi-detached houses. During the initial site clearance a thick layer of 20th century modern rubbish mixed with topsoil, indicating that the site had been subject to fly-tipping doe considerable time. This topsoil and rubbish lay directly over natural chalk. No archaeological deposits were observed on the site, clearly the site had been subject to extensive disturbance in the recent past.
