Abstract: |
A watching brief was held over trenching for a new garage because of the possibility of Roman and/or medieval remains being present. It was concluded that no Roman or medieval deposits were present, the only activity appearing to have occurred within the last 200-250 years with the digging of rubbish or cess pits. These were then sealed by a demolition or dump layer consisting mainly of chalk rubble. Some of this activity might have been connected with the erection of the current building in 1760 and the demolition of whatever was there before. [Au(adp)] |
