Abstract: |
Listed building consent had been granted for strengthening works to the bridge. Two excavated trenches were positioned over each span after which a detailed photographic survey and scaled drawings were undertaken. The granite lintels exposed during the works both displayed the presence of 'wedge and groove' markings, as well as distinctive 'feather and tare' drill markings indicating perhaps the transitional phase of both techniques. An early 19th century date could be attributed to the bridge but it was possible that it may have had earlier origins. [Au(abr)] |
