Abstract: |
The evaluation identified deposits and features of Saxon, medieval, post-medieval and modern date as well as a range of undated deposits. The majority of features, including post holes, pits, ditches and gullies, indicated a sizeable settlement dating to between the 5th and 8th centuries. Concentrations of domestic refuse were noted on the east side of the site. Medieval and later remains were generally scarce across the site. However, a medieval stone building was located in the southern part of the evaluation area and was possibly part of the evaluation area and was possibly associated with tow contemporary quarry pits.
