Abstract: |
The assessment did not identify any archaeological sites that were pre-1600 AD in date within the proposal area although there was some potential for prehistoric and Roman sites on the basis of the surrounding finds. The visible surviving archaeology on the site took the form of post-medieval quarries. Other evidence from 18th century maps and field names also indicated that brick making was taking place within the site. These were likely to be clamp kilns, which would be very vulnerable to ploughing. Some fragments of late post-medieval tile were recovered from within the area marked as containing brick kilns on the early maps. [Au(abr)] |
