Abstract: |
The watching brief was carried out during groundworks for a classroom extension and library at a school. Late 18th century and 19th century fragments of hardcore rubble were observed, probably deposited during the construction of the concrete surface. The presence of coke throughout reinforced this notion, since it had been a by-product of the coal industry only since the industrial revolution. No archaeological deposits, features or artefacts were encountered during the works. [Au(adp)] |
