Abstract: |
A three-month excavation on the ex-Carfax Hotel site uncovered a Roman/Saxon hollow way, a flint and chalk-metalled surface (possibly an early "main" road), and the remains of a timber building dating to the 11th or 12th century. The earliest finds from the site, a few crude Bronze Age/Early Iron Age sherds, were found in a small deposit of soil. [AIP] |
