Abstract: |
An evaluation of a site proposed for the construction of a hostel as part of a centre for the homeless, on land which formerly lay within the Benedictine Priory of St James, a cell of the Abbey of Tewkesbury founded in the 12th century, revealed three substantial medieval buildings of unknown function. Two of the buildings had been rebuilt in the post-medieval period and had been in use until post-war. Other medieval and post-medieval structures were discovered mostly in the westernmost trench.
