Abstract: |
As part of the long term programme of work to improve the presentation of Pendennis Headland it was proposed to recreate the Hornworks as a landscape feature. In advance of footpath construction, two machine trenches were excavated in the area of scrub undergrowth between the Hornworks car park and the Castle ditch to locate the exact positions of the eastern and western traverses. The eastern trench revealed a truncated, flat-based excavation cut on the projected line of the traverse. The western trench showed that loose soil and rubbish had been spread out to level the slope of the headland. No features or deposits of apparent archaeological significance were observed in this trench. [Au(adp)] |
