Abstract: |
After previous evaluation trenches revealed evidence for early Roman activity on the site, a further series of targeted trenches were excavated in advance of a proposed development. The 2004 excavation revealed more evidence for Roman activity in the form of boundary ditches, rubbish pits, possible clay quarrying and a small cremation cemetery. This evidence along with other contemporary remains found in the general area, suggested a dispersed Romano-British settlement site. Evidence for modern buildings, possibly wooden barracks associated with WWII were also revealed. [AIP] |
