Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of a trench for a drain at a site which lay within the area of a Scheduled Ancient Monument, the deserted medieval settlement of Newtown. A buried pond or marsh deposit was recorded, which was probably modern, as the presence of a pond at the site within living memory could be affirmed. No evidence of medieval occupation was encountered, although an undated French drain was recorded. A 19th-20th century field drain was noted. [Au(adp)] |
