Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out as part of a BBC documentary after metal-detecting on the site had revealed a number of Saxon finds. In the southern half of the site a post-medieval feature was discovered with occasional pits of Iron Age date. A charcoal horizon containing animal bone was identified in the northern part of the site, and was assumed to be and occupation layer. A probable 7th century post-in-trench hall building was the most notable feature recorded during the excavation, along with two possible sunken-featured buildings. A sparse pottery assemblage indicated a 7th century date. [Au(abr)] |
