Abstract: |
An excavation was undertaken by the Young Archaeologists' Club and Lancaster University Archaeological Unit in the walled garden of the late 16th-17th century Astley Hall, Chorley. Several features were excavated and recorded, most relating either to the garden or possibly the construction of Astley Hall. A possible medieval pit was excavated and most of the medieval pottery sherds found were concentrated at the north end of the site, indicating potential medieval activity in the area. It had been considered for some time that there may have been a farm on the site before the development of the hall. [Au(abr)] |
