Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the cutting of foundation trenches in an area of land that lay in close proximity to the site of a medieval Motte and Bailey castle (Kent SAM 39), which survived as a substantial earthwork of ramparts and a ditch. The monument was also considered to have been the location of an Iron Age hillfort, though no formal excavations had ever taken place. A few medieval peg tiles were recovered during the watching brief, nothing else of archaeological significance was revealed. [Au(adp)] |
