Abstract: |
A desk based assessment was undertaken in advance of a proposed redevelopment at St. Lawrence Cricket Ground. The site was located to the south of Canterbury and outside the city walls. The site lay close to the line of the Roman road from Dover to Canterbury and a number of Roman burials had been located previously on the site. The hospital of St. Lawrence founded in 1137 was known to have partially lay under the development site. Some buildings associated with this hospital complex were converted into a mansion house in the late 16th century. A cricket ground was first established on the land of the estate in the middle of the 19th century. [Au(abr)] |
