Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was required as a result of an application for the development of the land for housing. Geophysical survey was carried out by the University of Durham (Archaeological Services). The excavation of trenches was carried out by the partners in this Practice. Results were, on the whole, archaeologically negative. The presence of rigg-and-furrow cultivation upon the site was confirmed, as was the apparent line of the Willington Waggonway, but no other trace was recovered of early settlement or other activity.
