Abstract: |
The desk-based assessment for the proposed residential development showed that archaeological remains were known in the vicinity and that there was the possibility of similar deposits within the development area. The development area was situated in close proximity to Late Bronze Age occupation, the nearest of which was also on land sloping down to the north. Roman sites were also known nearby, including the projected line of a Roman road. The area was under arable cultivation in the medieval period and map evidence indicated that the site was not built on after 1809. Therefore any remains may have been well preserved beneath the present ground surface although medieval ploughing may have caused some damage. [Au(abr)] |
