Abstract: |
Penfound was first mentioned in the Domesday Survey of 1086 when it was taxed as a manor with a value or area of 1 virgate. The core of Poundstock manor house is a 15th century hall with 17th century additions. There were also 20th century alterations. The present owners of the house planned to remove concrete slabs which lay over the top of a garden within a courtyard which was attached to the house in order to re-instate the character of the garden as it may have looked in the 17th century. Features relating to dumping activities and ornamental garden features were revealed during sample trenching. [AIP] |
