Abstract: |
An assessment prior to the commencement of a flood alleviation scheme identified areas of archaeological interest that deserved investigation prior to or during the work. The position of an old medieval bridge, a mill complex with leats and bridges, a post-medieval bridge and the remains of the Sand Quay were areas deemed worthy of investigation and/or survey. The redirection of the Kestle River would also possibly provide the opportunity to conduct environmental sampling, and to see if there were any peat deposits. Six options for the scheme were proposed, all would require archaeological work at some, if not all, of the above sites. [AIP] |
