Abstract: |
Nine evaluation trenches were excavated at Chopwell Hall to determine the archaeological potential of the site prior to the proposed construction of a housing development. The trenches were targeted over anomalies that had been previously identified in a geophysical survey (2003). Extensive terracing and landscaping in the post-medieval period meant that no significant archaeological features or deposits survived across the majority of the site. In the south-eastern corner of the site, however, in Trench 9, a well preserved stretch of post-medieval trackway was located. A further watching brief was recommended in this area during any future development. [Au(adp)] |
