Abstract: |
During the watching brief a relatively recent ditch and an undated ditch were identified. Several pieces of medieval pottery were also recovered from a field to the south of the treatment works. Deep excavations were also monitored due to the considerable interest in the formation of the Romney Marshes. The deep excavations were sterile however in terms of organic or artefactual finds. Charcoal flecking was identified and was subsequently interpreted as evidence of controlled fires, perhaps to clear land of scrub for agriculture.[Au(abr)] |
