Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out on pipelaying operations associated with the new reservoir, running through areas of significant archaeological potential. The most noteable features recovered were two ditches probably forming part of an Iron Age rectangular enclosure. Pottery of Iron Age to post-medieval date was found and quantities of prehistoric struck flints (including Lower Palaeolithic material) were recovered throughout the route. The existence of a possible Lower Palaeolithic site is of considerable significance. [AIP] |
