Abstract: |
Twenty trenches were excavated, targeting crop mark evidence and a previous geophysical survey. An early to mid Saxon period of activity was identified in the form of a field system and a pit. Across the A338 to the south another pit and field system were recorded and dated to the 11th century. A Roman ditch and residual contemporary pottery were also noted. Medieval field systems and a late Bronze Age/early Iron Age settlement were also encountered. Further linear features and other evidence pointed to another undated but probably prehistoric settlement. [Au(abr)] |
