Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring of a small residential development was undertaken. It was hoped to recover evidence for medieval structures that may have fronted onto Bridewell Lane but it became quickly apparent that the natural subsoil had been seriously truncated by the construction of a 19th century malting. As part of an earlier stage in the development a single dwelling was built infilling a gap left by the demolition of a former butchers shop that fronted onto The Street but, as existing foundations were reused, no archaeological levels were revealed.
