Abstract: |
The evaluation established the presence on the site of a clear sequence of deposits dating to the mid-late medieval period associated with a building, probably a domestic dwelling, at a depth of 30 cm beneath the present ground surface. It was found to contain three superstructural features, a mortar-rendered clay wall, and edge-set brick hearth and an associated warming shelf or utensil support. The above were interpreted as part of the kitchen range of a house fronting onto Strand Street and was considered to be the upper part of a well-preserved downward extending sequence. [Au] |
