Abstract: |
A detailed evaluatory study was undertaken at the Merchant Adventurers' Hall comprising earthwork and geophysical surveys, excavations and a documentary assessment. The topographical survey showed that modern landscaping had completely obscured any signs of medieval features, however it provided an accurate plan of the main features, including the hall and chapel. Resistivity survey was undertaken over grassed areas in the garden, but all of the anomalies detected were considered to be of modern origin. The two trenches excavated , one in the Undercroft of the hall, and one in the garden, produced much archaeological material, including walls and layered medieval and post-medieval floors. [AIP] |
