Abstract: |
The evaluation consisted of 33 excavated trenches which represented a 4.6% sample of the entire area. Archaeological features were identified in ten of the 33 trenches. This included the following: Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age post holes and an eaves drip gully, representing a round house structure, 12 pits, some of which contained domestic rubbish, two potential field boundary ditches and three cremation burials. All of these features were located to the west of the site and appeared to have represented a settlement located on the upper slopes of Holborough valley. Two modern chalk extraction pits, a rectangular pit and plough marks were also identified. The site had generally experienced degradation by ploughing, represented by marks and residual finds during fieldwalking. [Au(adp)] |
