Abstract: |
The site lay within a rich archaeological area, with finds from the Mesolithic through to World War II. A large Mesolithic flint scatter was indicative of a long-term settlement, and its rarity led to a recommendation that it be scheduled. Bronze Age barrows were also noted, as well as a medieval parish boundary and the 17th century windmill, a Scheduled Monument. The site was used by the military in the Second World War, and the archaeology of this period is reflected in the landscape. Further archaeological work was suggested, although the vegetation needed to be cleared first.[Au((abr)] |
