Abstract: |
A programme of archaeological recording was undertaken. The recording comprised a photographic record of an 18th century barn and stable block and a watching brief during the excavation of an access road and drainage trenches. Woodcroft Castle lay in an area of medieval remains, notably the deserted settlement of Woodcroft. Apart from the castle, which dated to the 13th century, there were no other extant remains of that period. The development also affected a Listed 18th century barn and stable. Iron Age remains were also known from the vicinity. A photographic record of the 18th century barn and stable was compiled and the watching brief identified undated ditches and a wall. Finds retrieved from this investigation comprised a single fragment of modern glass. [Au(abr)] |
