Abstract: |
Archaeological recording was undertaken in advance of consolidation works on a medieval chantry chapel dedicated to Thomas a Becket and standing as a ruin in the cemetery of Bodmin parish church. The building, protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument and Grade II* Listed Building, comprised a rectangular building with a gabled and butressed porch in the south-west corner. Beneath the buildings was a well preserved undercroft or crypt with a ribbed barrel vault roof. Little alteration was identified, comprising only minor works associated with the use of the building as a schoolhouse after the Reformation, rebuilding work undertaken on the south wall before 1813, and refacing of interior walls during this century.
