Abstract:
A number of possible locations for a new waste water treatment works for Camborne were examined within the Red River valley, along with the route of a proposed pipeline and access tracks. Forty-three sites of potential archaeological significance were identified, mostly of post-medieval date and connected with the intensive tin streaming activity of the 19th and early 20th centuries. A network of mills, field systems and roads was discovered which had seen little change, despite the effects of the tin industry. An Iron Age round and Roman villa were located on land just above the valley at Magor Farm, and a number of known and possible medieval settlements and farmsteads were also in the area (most notably the settlement of Reskadinnick). Recommendations for further work were made. [Au(abr)]
