Abstract: |
The possible survival of buried remains of eleven features of cultural heritage interest, associated with the gardens and designed landscape of the former Hayton House and identified within a previous assessment, were investigated by seventeen trial trenches of varying lengths and widths. These features were found to survive, and included a cobbled path, beds, well, culvert, revetting wall and a set of steps; the position of these features matched the layout recorded on the 1st and 2nd edition Ordnance Survey coverage of the area. The possible footings of a building, could have related to a structure recorded on a 1710 map and last shown on the 1814 tithe map.[Au(adp)] |
