Abstract: |
Test pits excavated in the positions of proposed piles for a church extension in the existing cemetery discovered that cemetery activity had removed most earlier levels on the site, although in two trenches earlier stratigraphy was recorded. This consisted of a hard gravel deposit consistent with road metalling and was likely to be the Roman road from Winchester to Silchester; it had probably been a hollow way before its metalling. Yard surfaces were also found in another trench, but were undatable. [Au(adp)] |
