Abstract: |
Excavations in the south-west corner of the north aisle uncovered a massive foundation of oolite stone slabs more than 60cms wide and 20 cms thick, under the north wall of the nave and under the west wall of the north aisle, which was built in 1878. The slabs may have been part of the medieval foundation, although those under the north aisle west wall must have been reset there in 1878. The west wall foundation included a chambered block, unweathered, from a medieval plinth. [Au] |
