Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during groundworks for a supermarket. Previous evaluations in the area had recorded evidence of 15th and 16th century timber buildings. A modern bank observed during a 1994 evaluation at the site itself had been found to overlie an undated brick wall and demolition rubble containing 18th-19th century porcelain. During the watching brief, a number of 18th-19th century pits containing ceramics, glass and metalwork were recorded. A brick-lined well, an undated possible ditch and a late medieval pit were also found. During a supplementary watching brief within a car park extension site, modern features and 19th century artefacts were observed. [Au(adp)] |
