Abstract: |
The site lay on the south of the river in an area surrounded by Rowe Ditch which was a medieval fortification around a small settlement which sprung up outside the fortified town. Archaeological deposits were encountered at a depth of 0.5 metres below the surface. On the east side of the site, near the house, deposits were uncovered from the post-medieval period with a date in the 18th century AD. Further from the house a series of features of 13th-14th century date were discovered and a pit there contained charred seeds and fish/animal bone. [Au(adp)] |
