Abstract: |
A watching brief, undertaken during the underpinning of a building, was undertaken within a property that lay in a low lying region of Canterbury, but one which was central to both the Roman and medieval towns. Waterlogged deposits were revealed which contained a wealth of environmental material, as well as the remains of part of Roman Watling Street, which consisted of a layer of compacted gravel. The restricted size of the trenches as well as health and safety restrictions, meant that futher investigation was not possible. [AIP] |
