Abstract: |
The results of the watching brief concluded that the construction of cellars during the 19th century would have destroyed any evidence of pre-industrial or Roman activity that may have existed on the site. The depth of the 18th and 19th century building works was indicated by two rock cut pits uncovered east of Jordan Street at around 6m below street level, which were interpreted as the foundations for brick columns supporting the cellars of the buildings above.
