Abstract: |
The site lay outside and to the east of an area known to have been an extra-mural cemetery in the Roman period. The alignment of the Fosse Way ran along Belgrave Gate, and Roman mosaic had been found within the proposed development area. Evidence of early medieval activity was also noted, and occupation remains along the street frontage were deemed likely. An archaeological evaluation was recommended. [Au(abr)] |
