Abstract: |
The desk-based assessment identified a certain potential for burial archaeology dated to the first half of the 19th century. There were seven vaults in total within the undercroft. It was clear that there were coffins in at least two of the vaults, and probably three. The contents of one of the vaults was obscured by charcoal and rubble, the presence of which was almost certainly indicative of coffins below. Where coffins had been seen they appeared to be of the triple shelled wood-lead-wood variety, stacked in layers. It was impossible to provide a definite maximum number of burials likely to be encountered. [Au(abr)] |
