Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in the area of proposed leisure facilities in the car park, walled garden and at the northern end of the canal lake. The evaluation was recommended after a preliminary assessment identified the site as being of general historic interest and the possible location for a pre-1750s house. No features of archaeological interest and only a few fragments of undatable roof tile were found. It is possible that recent disturbance in the area had removed the evidence for 18th century or earlier structures, which may have had fairly shallow footings. No further archaeological work was recommended. [AIP] |
