Abstract: |
The watching brief was carried out during the hand excavation of a new drain trench and associated soak away pit located towards the east end of the southern portion of the churchyard. No articulated burials were encountered during the work. This could have been due to the burials being deeper than the excavation. Fragments of disturbed human bone in a single deposit below the topsoil was typical of the sort of soil horizons recorded in churchyards which are formed by the continual rotation of the soil through constant burial over a long period. The examination of the current church spire revealed it to be dated between the mid 16th and mid 17th centuries, later in date to the church. [Au(adp)] |
